VARICOSE VEIN DOPPLER

Veins are the blood vessels that carry blood from body organs back to the heart.

Veins have valves in them that prevent the back flow of blood. In the legs, valves can become malfunctioned and this can cause blood to flow back into veins  - a condition called venous insufficiency.

Vein

These veins can be close to the skin and visible to the naked eye. Tiny insufficient veins are called spider veins, and when enlarged are called varicose veins. They can cause discomfort, itching, swelling and even ulceration to the legs.

Deeper veins can also be affected and this tends to be more serious.

Clots can also form in veins, a condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
